FAQ's

Before Obedience Training...

Why obedience training?

One reason for doing obedience training is to establish a foundation from which you and your dog can learn from.  The foundation is then built upon and a language is created between you and your dog.  This will then let your dog know the correct response that you expect in place of misbehavior.

Obedience training can be used to help fulfill some of  your dog's basic needs, such as exercise, a feeling of accomplishment and constructive social interaction. Obedience training will give your dog a job to do and can be useful in redirecting some of the mental engery of an animal that was meant for work.

Instead of frantically searching for behavior they believe might please you, the obedience trained dog understands exactly what is expected of them and responds appropriately every time.

Is my dog too young to start training?

...After Obedience Training

We start puppies as early as 10 weeks old.  Although their attention span is not that of an older dog they are eager to learn at any age.

Is my dog to old to train?

No. We have never witnessed a dog too old to learn. In fact, contrary to old wives' tales, older dogs actually learn faster.  They are more mentally mature and love the one-on-one attention.  As long as  you are not asking your senior to do something that he cannot physicallly do, he will be just as capable as he was in his first years of life.

How fast can you housetrain a dog?

From the first housetraining lesson, your dog should not have another accident inside your house. He can be totally reliable in as fast as 21 days.

How much does the training program cost?

We offer group class rates as low as $75 for a six week session. Personal in home rates or day long drop off rates are  available upon request.

What style of training do you use?

We are experienced in every style of training available.  We will give you educational information on each style, recommend which method will produce the results you desire, and let you make your own decision

Can you train aggressive dogs?

Yes, we train dogs that are fear aggressive as well as dominance aggressive.  We also train dogs that are dog aggressive. Again, this can be fear based aggression or dominance aggression.

Are group classes or individual training classes better?

This is absolutely a question of what works better or is more convienent for you. Most people find group classes more effective in helping their dog learn how to socialize and interact with people and other dogs. Others find group classes a more cost effective way to teach their dog basic obedience.

Is it OK to bring my dog to a Group Class if he's not good around people or other dogs?

Absolutely.  One of the biggest mistakes owners make is shielding their dog from other dogs or people because their dogs seem to be too aggressive around other dogs or people.  Dogs need to be taught appropriate socialization skills and that only comes as a result of repeated opportunites to socialize.  Group classes are a safe and effective way to teach them that appropriate behavior.  All training is done on leash to ensure control.
